Women
Empowerment
Pakistan (WEP) collaborates
with the Government of
Sindh Health Department
under the Accelerated
Action Plan (AAP) to combat
malnutrition in the districts
of Mirpurkhas, Kashmore,
and Ghotki. Emulating the
Sindh Lady Health Worker
Program, WEP’s initiative
extends to areas not
covered by the program,
leveraging the expertise of
1,575 Community Health
Workers (CHWs) to deliver
essential services.
Objective of Health Houses: The Health Houses are conceived as community hubs, offering
vital health information and services, with a focus on addressing the developmental
challenges faced by children affected by malnutrition. These centers aim to ensure the
sustainability of health education and malnutrition awareness, even beyond the lifespan of
the current program.
Establishment Process: Selected experienced CHWs, designated as Model CHWs, have
generously allocated space within their homes to create Health Houses. These centers are
equipped with locally sourced, cost-effective materials and serve as repositories for health
records and educational materials.
Contents and Information: Health
Houses are pivotal to the Model CHWs’
operations, showcasing charts, banners,
and other visual aids that encapsulate
the program’s scope and protocols. Each
Health House features a detailed chart of
the CHW’s village, including critical data
such as UC, Taluka, Population Code, and
more. Additionally, CHW files house
essential documents, including contracts,
job descriptions, and supply details.
Educational Outreach: WEP teams have populated the Health Houses with diverse pictorial
and informative materials to benefit both CHWs and community visitors. These resources
cover a range of topics, including Infant and Young Child Feeding (IYCF), balanced diets,
complementary feeding, antenatal and postnatal care, safe delivery preparations, and the
correct use of RUTF, IFAs, MNP, and Mebendazole. A suggestion and complaint mechanism
are also in place, allowing community members to provide feedback directly at the Health
Houses.
District-Wise Health House Details:
• Mirpurkhas: Out of 408 CHWs, 25 Model CHWs are prepared to establish Health
Houses, with 10 already operational.
• Ghotki: From 704 CHWs, 27 Model CHWs have set up Health Houses.
• Kashmore: Among 463 CHWs, 9 Model CHWs have inaugurated Health Houses in their
respective areas.
