WEP’s Initiative for Behavioural Change

Cultivating Supportive Networks for Families In the dynamic landscape of Sindh’s districts—
Kashmore, Ghotki, and Mirpurkhas—the Women Empowerment Program (WEP) has
pioneered the formation of Father Support Groups (FSGs) and Mother Support Groups
(MSGs), championed by a dedicated cadre of Community Health Workers (CHWs). This
initiative has seen the mobilization of a formidable network of CHWs, with 704 in Ghotki, 408
in Mirpurkhas, and 463 in Kashmore.
Strengthening Community Engagement: the inception of FSGs and MSGs under the AAP-H
project is a testament to WEP’s commitment to social mobilization and behaviour change
communication (BCC). Social mobilization is the cornerstone of this initiative, engaging
communities, and empowering individuals to catalyse collective action for addressing
pressing social challenges. The support groups, steered by CHWs, are pivotal in galvanizing
community members, particularly parents, to engage actively in dialogues and initiatives
centred on health and personal development.
Behaviour Change Communication: A Strategic Approach BCC is employed as a strategic
process within the project to encourage positive behaviours and mitigate negative ones via
customized communication tactics. The monthly sessions orchestrated by the support groups
delve into critical themes such as Health and Nutrition, Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene
(WASH), Infant and Young Child Feeding (IYCF), Immunization, and Education. These
gatherings are instrumental in broadcasting targeted BCC messages that advocate for
proactive health behaviours, nutritional improvements, hygiene enhancements, and
heightened awareness of immunization and educational opportunities.
Conclusion: Nurturing Positive Behavioural Dynamics Through methodical assemblies and
persistent interactions with the support groups, WEP has adeptly utilized BCC methodologies
to impart knowledge, elevate awareness, and reshape attitudes and practices pertinent to
health and societal advancement. By engaging both fathers and mothers in these
transformative discussions and activities, WEP has cultivated an environment conducive to
behavioural change, reinforcing the fabric of community well-being.
