Women Empowerment Pakistan successfully implemented various programs and activities in collaboration with a number of CBOs, national and international organizations in Pakistan.
Vocational training centers were established in Karachi, where 787 trainees were provided vocational trainings in different trades. These entrepreneur trainings includes tailoring, cooking backing, mobile repairing, building electrician, motor winding and net viewing.
217 trained female beauticians were provided extensive hands on advance skills by hired professional through WEP in Hyderabad.
Entrepreneur capacity building of skilled women (42 Families) from Bahawalpur, Lodhran and Multan was enhanced through opportunities by displaying their handmade embroidery products at various educational and other institutions in Lahore, Rawalpindi, Islamabad and Abbottabad.Regional artists, writers and poets were effectively mobilized and engaged for WEP thematic areas especially literacy and health campaigns in WEP project areas.Thirteen students were identified and got enrolled in various trades at vocational training Institute district Lodhran, Southern Punjab Pakistan.
750 female teachers of 25 missionary s schools of Catholic Board of Education were trained around different skills of teaching, including English & Urdu phonics, effective teaching of Mathematics and lesson planning.
Various projects and programs for literacy, informal education, vocational trainings, health promotion and social mobilization were completed in collaboration/partnership with renowned national groups, organization and agencies.
A comprehensive research based syllabus and system for non-formal basic education in Â Dari/Persian languages is under the process of development for the local Pakistani and Afghan communities in Pakistan and Afghan nationals in Afghanistan.
Teacher training and support system were offered to different school networks at both missionary and private sector level.
70 female teachers of Al-Huda International were provided 40days advanced teacher training (7 Modules) on Early Childhood Education.
40 both male and female teachers of Tamir e Millat Foundation were trained in Urdu Phonics skills.
More than 200 teachers were trained in Multi grade teaching skills in collaboration with Sanjog in Balochistan.
The vision of WEP cannot be achieved without focusing on health especially community health, mother & child health and rehabilitation. The WEP health initiatives were taken at both in schools & community levels.
The focus was also given to the children under difficult circumstances that are street living, trash-picker and special children. Besides these thematic areas WEP health initiatives are also extended to various unaddressed segments of health such as Health Education and Promotion in Schools, Environmental Health & Occupational health and disability.
The health education campaigns was also designed and launched through IEC (Information Education & Communication) material on community health issues such as polio eradication hepatitis, malaria, tuberculosis, vaccination, breastfeeding and better parenting through reproductive health.
IEC material was distributed and deployed at schools, community health centers, clinics both public and private sectors.
General Medical Practitioners, Family Physicians, Lady Health Visitors (LHVs) and Lady Health Workers (LHW) were also trained and mobilized for the enrolment of out of school children in their en-catchment areas. These health forces were provided with IEC material and orientation session regarding community health, reproductive health and the topics of their demands. Red Apple Clinics (The model volunteer clinics) for children were established in thirteen districts of Punjab where the referral of school going child patients were made to these clinics.
29 Schools of thirteen districts of Pakistan were provided health education/promotion and prevention activities for their children.
216 medical camps were conducted at both schools and community level on the various subjects/issues like malnutrition, deworming, hygiene and screening etc. for the health education and promotion purposes. These medical camps were organized with hospitals/pharmaceutical companies.
Special events on health like healthy baby competition, ORS (Oral Rehydration Salt) awareness competition were organized at schools, literacy centers, during different schools celebrations and national days.
Orientations Sessions on Occupational health and Functional health literacy (Twenty Nine) were organized with the workforce of mines, fishing and industrial worker, labor of carpet industry in Punjab and bangle industries in Hyderabad Sindh.
Rehabilitation centers & experts were identified and approached to extend their services for special children and children under difficult circumstances i.e. Street living, children with begging habits, victims of CSA (Child Sexual Abused) and prisoners in Punjab and Islamabad. Similarly the children and victims identified from community and schools were referred to these centers and experts.
WEP INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY:
WEP with restricted funds has established 2 computer labs in the following non-profit private schools:
Indus Model Boys High School, Mari Indus, District Mianwali.
2.A Indus Model Girls High School, Mari Indus, District Mianwali.
These two labs consist of 24 computers each that are catering more than 700 regular school students. These labs are also imparting literacy to adults and children from the nearby community in the evening.
WEP DISASTER MANAGEMENT:DM CMYK APRIL 2010
WEP has an experience of streamlining the water channels in rural areas of Shikarpur, Jacobabad, Qambar Shahdadkot, Larkana, Dadu and Thatta districts in Sindh and District Layyah, Muzaffargarh, Multan, Rajanpur and Rahimyar Khan in (Punjab). In its current cooperation with Blue Veins, an organization working on these issues in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa KPK, WEP has installed and reconstruct more than 150 hand pumps in the above districts. The project was still in place as flood situation in these districts paused the activities for a while.
WEP on self-support basis extended its generous help to the victims of the earthquake by providing supplies that included clothing, blankets, tents, food and medicines in district Shangla, Muzzafarabad & Bagh, AJK under the title of WE Pakistan.
WEP also provided school and hostel furniture, stationery to 8 schools, while children of 9 schools were given warm jackets in district Bagh, AJK.
WEP team visited 19 out of 20. The infrastructure of the majority of schools was badly damaged. WEP maintained the data of five schools which was completely destroyed.
Rehabilitation center was established at Abbottabad in collaboration a local CBO for the earthquake victims in 2005.
WEP has also contributed in 2005 Earth Quake Relief activities by providing temporary shelter, dry pit latrines and water tanks (with foundation including water taps) in Union Council College Durra, Khakai and Bafa Mairaa.
WEP has contributed in reconstruction and rehabilitation (RNR) work by working on a three years project of Daghai Construction , project funded by Islamic Relief in Azad Kashmir (Muzzafarabad and Bagh) and by SRSP in Balakot (U.C Gulnal, kewai). In the project WEP has provided for reconstructed of wooden port, dry stone and mud construction.
WEP has also monitored and provided its expertise on Confined Masonry Project (Columns, Beans and Frame Structure) funded by Islamic Relief and SRSP for a duration of 8 months.
WEP has also provided shelter, dry pit latrines, hand washing facility and water tanks to IDPs of Dera Ismail Khan in collaboration with WISH.
WEP has repaired and reconstructed 30 Basic Health Units (BHUs) in province of Sindh i.e. Shikarpur, Qambar Shahdadkot, Larkana and Jacobabad in collaboration with Blue Veins.
Distributions of school bags, books and other utensils donated by USAID were effectively delivered among IDPs resulting from the post security operation in northern areas of Pakistan.
WEP effectively mobilized medical professionals and conducted medical camps at Khairpur Doma, Alipur, Chachna Sharif and Peripheries of Tehsil Alipur for flood victims.
WEP along with other civil society organizations worked to provide food, medicines and shelter to the homeless brothers and sisters in the relief camps of Mardan and Swabi, KPK. 2000 school bags with story books and stationery were distributed among the IDPs school going children in support of WEP cause.
WEP has distributed 500 maintenance free flash lights one for each family of IDPs residing in camps and schools located at Charsaddah District.
